Consequently, you are due to start your next practical assignment after the October half-term, which id the TV advert. Therefore, you may enter the competition and submit the finished advert as part of the assignment brief. If you want to still create your own advert then feel free.
There are some good prizes (iPads) involved in this competition and it would be a shame not to enter.

Deadline for entries into the competition is January 20th 2012. However, your deadline for the TV Advertising Assignment is before Christmas so make sure that you do not get confused.
