Advertising Competition

Film Education have just announced that they are once again running the "Be ©reative" competition.

Consequently, you are due to start your next practical assignment after the October half-term, which id the TV advert. Therefore, you may enter the competition and submit the finished advert as part of the assignment brief. If you want to still create your own advert then feel free.

There are some good prizes (iPads) involved in this competition and it would be a shame not to enter.

Please follow the link HERE to their website so that you can see the entry details. Unfortunately, the competition is only open to students aged 11 - 19.

Deadline for entries into the competition is January 20th 2012. However, your deadline for the TV Advertising Assignment is before Christmas so make sure that you do not get confused.

One area of Media Production that has become an essential part of the medium is "Reflective Writing". Therefore, i have set a short task for this mornings lesson in order for you all to practice your Reflective Writing skills.

Read the document (link to it HERE) and reflect on the scenarios. Use Gibbs' Reflective Cycle and post your responses on to your blog - title them "Reflective Writing Practice".

A Gentle Reminder...

You should have all created a Theory tab on your blog page. This is where you need to post your Theory work.

You need to upload your work to google docs and link it your blog

If you are having problems setting a new page-up and posting I will run through it Monday

Please do not post on to the Moving Image Year 1 Theory Page or on you homepage - create and use your own Theory page.

Thank You!

To get you going, check out the vimeo haiku albums:

What should I be Posting?

Remember, your individual course blog should only contain information relevant to the assignments you are working on.

For the purposes of internal and external verification it is essential that only assignment related content is present.

Furthermore, please remember that when you make a post that you state, which assignment brief, unit and criteria it refers to - this is paramount.

If you want to share your thoughts and opinions on other film and media related topics (competitions, festivals, film reviews etc...) please post them on your main course page.

Everyone on the course has subscribed to the course homepage and will be able to see your post.

Thank you.

Labels

You must begin labelling your work

Label which unit / point it relates to (e.g. 22 = 1 / 2 / 3 / 4) and whether it is P / M / D

You add labels prior to posting - see image below

Alien - an inside look...

Alien (1979) is often referred to as a classic...it may, therefore, be a film that you look at on the course

Where to Post CIQ

Remember to post your CIQ to the YEAR 1 MOVING IMAGE BLOG

Do not continue to post on the MOVING IMAGE PRODUCTION BLOG

PLEASE TAKE NOTES IN FUTURE SO THAT YOU DO NOT FORGET WHAT YOU HAVE BEED ASKED TO DO

THANK YOU!

Dear participant/Student

I would like to ask you to participate in the data collection for a work-based study into the use of an electronic Critical Incident Questionnaire (CIQ).
For the purposes of this work-based study the questionnaire will be used to discover how you are experiencing teaching sessions. Its usefulness is underlined by the experience that student responses often differ markedly from what teachers have expected on the basis of their own feelings in the classroom (Brookfield 1995: 95-96).
The CIQ requires you to answer five questions that describe aspects of teaching sessions, prompting teachers to think about what is helping or hindering their learning so far. Your responses are anonymous and you are encouraged to keep a copy too for review at the end of the course and for your own records. You will be asked to complete the CIQ at the end of each class and are the same every week.

Brookfield began giving students a voice, in this particular way, in the era of carbon paper! But nowadays the facilities available to us include electronic mail and virtual learning environments. Therefore, we will be asking you to submit your electronic CIQ to the specific CIQ page on the course blog.

Your participation in this work-based study is entirely voluntary. Filling in the survey will take no more than 5 minutes. The information you provide is confidential. All of your CIQ responses are anonymous and therefore no participant’s names will be used. If you request confidentiality, beyond anonymised quotes, information you provide will be treated only as a source of background information, alongside literature-based research and potential interviews with other participants.

Your name or any other personal identifying information will not appear in any publications resulting from this study. The information gained from this interview will only be used for the above objectives, will not be used for any other purpose and will not be recorded in excess of what is required for the research.

Even though the study findings will be published in a Thesis, international conferences and journals, only relevant researchers will have access to the anonymous CIQ responses. These researchers will be bound by the principles outlined above. There are no known or anticipated risks to you as a participant in this work-based study.

If you have any questions regarding this study or would like additional information please contact the work-based study researcher (
p.smith7@unimail.derby.ac.uk).

By filling in the CIQ (every occasion) you indicate that you understand its purpose and consent to the use of the data as indicated above. This is a completely voluntary request and should you decide not to complete the CIQ at any point during the work-based study, the data you have already entered up to that point will be used.
Thank you for your cooperation

Paul Smith, University of Derby Research Student

Submitting Post

When submitting a post to your blog it is essential that you specifically identify which unit and grading criteria you are targeting.

For Example, if you are submitting a Treatment Template, state which project, unit number and criteria it relates to -

Treatment Template, Unit 22 .2, Vimeo Assignment.

This is essential for external and internal verification purposes.

Additionally, could you please amend earlier posts so that each post is clearly identifiable to the associated assignment, unit and criteria.

Thanks!
